Grey carpet part way through a clean, with the dirty section still showing
    Worth knowing

    Not every mark
    is a stain.

A lot of what people call stains is really soil: dirt that has settled in one spot and catches the light differently. That comes out with a proper clean.

A true stain is different. Something has dyed the fibre itself, as hair dye, fake tan or tea left for months can. Bleach is different again, because it takes colour out and nothing puts it back.

I check which one you have before I start, so you know what to expect.

    My method

    Three steps,
    no guesswork

1 I find out what it isWhat the stain is and what the carpet is made of decide what is safe to use. Wool and synthetics need different treatment.
2 I test before I treatI try the treatment on a small hidden area first, so a spot doesn't turn into a bigger mark or a pale patch.
3 I treat it and rinse it outWhatever goes on comes back out. Product left in the pile is what makes a stain come back as a dirty patch a week later.

Stains are priced separately. I look at them on the day and agree a price with you before I touch them. If a stain doesn't come out, you don't pay for that stain.

What usually comes out, and what might not

Better you know this before you book than after.

    Usually sorted

    These normally lift out

    • Mud, food and drink spills
    • Coffee and tea, if they haven't been there for months
    • Grease and oily marks
    • Dark traffic lanes that are really soil
    • Marks left by an old spot cleaner
    Be aware

These are harder, or not possible

    • Hair dye, fake tan and some medicines, which dye the fibre
    • Bleach or strong cleaners that have taken colour out
    • Old stains that have been scrubbed with the wrong product

    Reviews from Bedford homes

Stains are where you find out if someone knows what they're doing. Here is what two customers said.

"Excellent service beginning to end. Mantas went round first and told me what results would be achievable and which marks were dye damage. Carpet was walkable the same evening."

    Leon H, Google review

"Mantas did a brilliant job with my sofa. He communicated really well from start to finish, was really polite, and did an excellent job at getting some difficult stains out!"

    FAQ

    The things people ask first

It depends on what the stain is, how big it is and how long it has been there. I look at it on the day and agree a price with you before I start. If it doesn't come out, you don't pay for that stain.

No. A normal clean takes out the general dirt, and a lot of marks go with it. Proper stain treatment takes extra time and different products, so I price it separately and only do it if you want it.

Blot it with a clean white cloth and a little cold water, then leave it. Scrubbing spreads a stain and frays the pile, and a lot of shop sprays leave a sticky residue that makes the mark worse later.

Yes, on fabric sofas. I check the care label and test the fabric first, because some fabrics mark if they get too wet. I don't clean leather.

Not if everything is rinsed out properly. A stain that comes back is usually leftover product attracting dirt, or something below the carpet working its way up. I rinse out what I put in, and if I think the problem is underneath, I'll tell you.
