Sofa cleaning in Great Barford
I clean sofas and armchairs in Great Barford as well as carpets, and a lot of my work is sofas. If you want both done, it is one visit.
Arms, headrests and seat cushions take body oils long before a sofa looks dirty. That is what turns a light fabric dull and grey, and it does come out.
Fabric sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and cushions. If yours is leather, I will tell you straight away rather than take the job.
I check the care label and test a hidden spot, because some fabrics mark if they get too wet. Then I clean to suit what it is made of.
One visit for both. If you want carpets and a sofa done together, say so when you book and I will price them as one job. A sofa is usually dry in a few hours, and fabric protection can go on at the end. More on sofa cleaning.
What happens on the day
No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.
Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Great Barford is close enough that an early start is easy. The crossroads in the middle gets tight with parked cars and the school run adds to it, so tell me roughly where you are when you book. A space near the door means a shorter hose, better suction and a carpet that dries faster.
We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.
Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.
We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.
How I clean
your carpet
The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.
I check the carpet
First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.
I vacuum first
Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.
I spray the cleaner on
The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.
I brush it in
A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.
I rinse it out
Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.
I comb it flat
I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

What Great Barford carpets are up against
A village built where four roads meet a seventeen arch medieval bridge over the Great Ouse. It nearly doubled in size in the nineteen sixties and seventies and it is growing again now, so the houses here run from properly old to properly new with a big block of nineteen seventies in the middle.
This is the thing about Great Barford that people either know all about or have never thought about. Several hundred properties here sit in the surface water flood area, there are two flood storage reservoirs, and streets like Green End Road and Willoughby Close have taken water in living memory. If that has ever happened to you, a carpet needs more than a clean afterwards, it needs the water taken out of the backing and the underlay checked. Tell me if that is the situation and I will treat it as that job, not this one.
Between 1961 and 1971 the population nearly doubled, and Chapel Field, Willoughby and Pyms are where a lot of that went. Those houses are fifty and sixty years old now, which usually means the carpet down today is the second or third one in the room. What is underneath matters more than what is on top at that age, and I check the underlay before I put water anywhere near it.
Bedford Road, Roxton Road, the High Street and Green End Road all meet in one place, and since the bypass opened the back road through the village has become a short cut when the A1 is bad. That means more traffic than a village this size should have, and more of what traffic leaves behind ends up walked through front doors along those four roads.
Great Barford is an easy run for me and there is nothing added for it. Parking near the crossroads and along the High Street can be awkward at school times, so if you are in that stretch, mention it and I will come outside those hours rather than blocking anybody in.
Great Barford is five miles out and the drive is included. Close enough that I can usually fill a gap the same week, and if you have had water in the house I will tell you honestly whether a clean is the right answer or whether it needs more. Same method as any carpet clean in Bedford.

Questions people in Great Barford ask
If something isn't covered here, just ask. It's a one-person business, so you'll always get a straight answer.
Ask me directly. I answer every message myself, usually within the hour.
01234 634521 contact@purgebright.co.ukYes, and Roxton and Blunham on the same run. It is five miles out on the A421 side of Bedford. No travel charge, and the price is no different to a job in town.
Tell me the rooms and roughly what state they are in and I will give you a firm number. The minimum call-out is £120. That is the figure you pay, and being out of town does not change it.
Sometimes, and sometimes not, and you deserve a straight answer rather than an optimistic one. It depends how long it sat, how clean the water was and what the underlay has done. I will look at it and tell you which it is. If it needs lifting rather than cleaning I will say so and I will not charge you for coming to look.
Often yes, but the honest answer is that I need to see what is under it first. Old underlay can be crumbling or can hold water badly, and that changes what I am willing to do. If it is sound then a carpet that age usually has a lot to give back.
Yes, and near the crossroads I would rather. Parking there gets tight twice a day and a space near your door makes a real difference to how fast your carpet dries. Tell me your street and I will work round it.
Yes, and in most houses here they are the part that needs it most. Stairs take more traffic per square foot than anything else in a house. I price them as part of the job rather than as an extra surprise at the end.
Usually the same week. It is a short run for me so a cancellation is easy to fill, which means it is always worth asking even at short notice.
