See the difference on a real carpet

"The carpets had heavy traffic marks, general wear, and some noticeable staining, but after the clean they looked dramatically refreshed and much brighter. Mantas did a great job!"

    Rebecca Stewart, Google review

The small photo is the proof. One picture, taken halfway through. Dirty side, clean side, nothing edited.

"I honestly thought a few of the high-traffic stains were permanent, but he managed to get them looking like new again. He was punctual, professional, and very careful with the furniture."

    Laima Zakariene, Google review

"He talked us through the whole process, and the results are fantastic, the carpets look brand new. Highly recommend."

    Sofas too

    Sofa cleaning in Cardington

I clean sofas and armchairs in Cardington as well as carpets, and a lot of my work is sofas. If you want both done, it is one visit.

Sofas and armchairs Where the dirt really builds up

Arms, headrests and seat cushions take body oils long before a sofa looks dirty. That is what turns a light fabric dull and grey, and it does come out.

Fabric only I don't clean leather

Fabric sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and cushions. If yours is leather, I will tell you straight away rather than take the job.

Tested first Every fabric checked before I start

I check the care label and test a hidden spot, because some fabrics mark if they get too wet. Then I clean to suit what it is made of.

One visit for both. If you want carpets and a sofa done together, say so when you book and I will price them as one job. A sofa is usually dry in a few hours, and fabric protection can go on at the end. More on sofa cleaning.

    Booking me

    What happens on the day

No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.

    1
    Before I arrive

Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Cardington is close, so an early start is usually easy to arrange. If you are on the new estate and there are yellow lines outside, or the lane by you is narrow, tell me when you book. A space near the door means a shorter hose, better suction and a carpet that dries faster.

    2
    When I get there

We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.

    3
    While I work

Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.

    4
    When I finish

We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.

    My method

    How I clean
    your carpet

The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.

Checking a carpet before cleaning it in a Bedford home
    Step 01

    I check the carpet

First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.

Vacuuming a carpet before any water is used
    Step 02

    I vacuum first

Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.

Spraying cleaning solution onto a carpet before brushing it in
    Step 03

    I spray the cleaner on

The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.

A machine brush working cleaner into a carpet
    Step 04

    I brush it in

A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.

Hot water rinsing dirt and soap back out of a carpet
    Step 05

    I rinse it out

Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.

Combing a freshly cleaned carpet so it dries evenly
    Step 06

    I comb it flat

I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

    Cardington

What Cardington carpets are up against

Cardington is three places at once. There is the old village round the green, there is Shortstown from 1917, and there is the new estate still going up on the old airfield. They were built two hundred years apart and they give me three completely different jobs.

The old village Built smart, and built old

The heart of Cardington is a proper estate village. A green, a pub on it, and something like thirty listed buildings including a row of almshouses put up in the seventeen eighties. Houses that old tend to have small rooms, tight stairs and doorways that were never meant for modern kit. None of that is a problem, it just means I look before I start rather than assuming. If a room needs a different approach I will say so while we are walking round, not after.

Shortstown, 1917 A hundred years of feet

Shortstown was built in one go for the people making airships, and it was laid out in curves rather than a grid, which is why it still does not feel like an ordinary estate. Those original houses are past a hundred years old now. A carpet in a house that age has usually had more than one life, and the thing worth knowing before I start is how old the carpet actually is and what is underneath it. Old underlay can hold water, and that changes how I work the room.

The new estate New carpet, building site next door

Hundreds of homes have gone up on the old airfield since the early twenty twenties and they are still building. That matters more than people expect. An active site puts fine plaster and brick dust in the air, it travels further than you would think, and it settles into a pile that is only a year or two old. The carpet still looks new, so nobody cleans it, and all the while the grit is working its way down to the bottom where it does the damage.

Flat and open Nothing much in the way

The estate sits on what was an airfield, so there is a lot of open ground around it and not much shelter. What is on that ground gets moved about, and it comes in on shoes and paws like anywhere else, just with less to stop it on the way. It is the sort of thing you never notice happening. You notice it two winters later when the hall has gone a shade darker than the room next to it.

Cardington and Shortstown are both a short run from me and neither costs extra. It is close enough that a gap in the diary is easy to fill, so it is worth asking even at short notice. The same goes for any other carpet cleaning around Bedford.

    FAQ

    Questions people in Cardington ask

If something isn't covered here, just ask. It's a one-person business, so you'll always get a straight answer.

    Still have a question?

Ask me directly. I answer every message myself, usually within the hour.

Both, and they count as one trip as far as I am concerned. I work out of Bedford and it is a short run down the Cardington Road. Nothing extra goes on the bill for either of them.

Tell me which rooms need doing and roughly what they are like, and I will come back with a firm number. The minimum call-out is £120. Nothing gets added on afterwards, and nothing changes once I am standing in the room.

Usually the opposite. A carpet in a new house has often had the worst of its life in the first two years, because the site around it is still being built and fine dust gets everywhere. It still looks clean, which is exactly why people leave it. Getting the grit out early is what keeps a carpet looking right for years rather than months.

If they are weeks away from finishing, wait. If it is another year or two, do not, because that is a long time to leave grit sitting in the bottom of the pile. Tell me what is going on outside and I will give you an honest answer, even if the honest answer is to leave it a bit.

Yes, and I will check before I do anything. Older buildings have their own quirks, narrow doorways and low ceilings and stairs that were built for smaller people. I work out the plan for your rooms with you at the start rather than turning up and pressing on regardless.

Nearly always, yes. A carpet that has never been cleaned usually has the most to give back, because what is in it is soil rather than damage. If it turns out to be genuine wear I will tell you straight and I will not charge you for finding out.

Most weeks I can get you in within the week. Cardington is near enough that if somebody moves a booking I can often fill it the same day, so it is always worth an ask.

    The guarantee

    I don't leave
