See the difference on a real carpet

"The carpets had heavy traffic marks, general wear, and some noticeable staining, but after the clean they looked dramatically refreshed and much brighter. Mantas did a great job!"

    Rebecca Stewart, Google review

The small photo is the proof. One picture, taken halfway through. Dirty side, clean side, nothing edited.

"I honestly thought a few of the high-traffic stains were permanent, but he managed to get them looking like new again. He was punctual, professional, and very careful with the furniture."

    Laima Zakariene, Google review

"He talked us through the whole process, and the results are fantastic, the carpets look brand new. Highly recommend."

    Booking me

    What happens on the day

No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.

    1
    Before I arrive

Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. In Biddenham that usually means finding me somewhere near the door on Main Road or one of the lanes. If parking is tight, tell me when you book and I'll come earlier while there's still space.

    2
    When I get there

We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.

    3
    While I work

Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.

    4
    When I finish

We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.

    My method

    How I clean
    your carpet

The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.

Checking a carpet before cleaning it in a Bedford home
    Step 01

    I check the carpet

First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.

Vacuuming a carpet before any water is used
    Step 02

    I vacuum first

Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.

Spraying cleaning solution onto a carpet before brushing it in
    Step 03

    I spray the cleaner on

The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.

A machine brush working cleaner into a carpet
    Step 04

    I brush it in

A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.

Hot water rinsing dirt and soap back out of a carpet
    Step 05

    I rinse it out

Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.

Combing a freshly cleaned carpet so it dries evenly
    Step 06

    I comb it flat

I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

    Biddenham

What Biddenham carpets are up against

The village sits inside a loop of the Great Ouse, two miles west of town. Between the river on three sides and the age of the houses, Biddenham carpets get a particular kind of wear, and it helps to know what you are dealing with before you start.

The river Most of it walks in

The paths round the Loop and Deep Spinney are one of the best things about living here. They are also how the dirt gets in. Through the wet months it arrives on boots and paws, gets trodden through the hall, and works its way down to the bottom of the pile where a vacuum will not reach it. By the time a carpet looks grey it is usually holding a lot more than it shows.

The old village Solid floors underneath

From the green up to St James is a conservation area, and plenty of those cottages are seventeenth century. Under the carpet there is often a solid floor rather than boards. Solid floors have nowhere to breathe, so damp sits in them for longer. That changes the job. It is about how much water comes back out, not how much goes down, and it is why I would rather take an extra pass with the machine than leave a carpet wet.

The newer end Traffic lanes, not stains

Towards Biddenham Turn the houses are newer and the ground floors are more open. One carpet runs through the whole space, so a darker path wears in between the front door, the kitchen and the sofa. People often think it is worn out. Nine times out of ten it is soil sitting in the pile, catching the light differently, and it lifts out.

Getting to you Parking and access

Main Road and the lanes round the green are narrow, and most parking is on the street. It is never a dealbreaker, but a space near the door means a shorter hose run, and a shorter hose run means better suction and a drier carpet. If your road gets busy at school time, say so when you book and I will come earlier.

Whichever end of the village you are, the price is the same. Biddenham is a ten minute drive for me, so there is no travel charge, and being outside town does not mean waiting longer for a slot. Most weeks I can get to you within a few days.

Yes, and there's no travel charge. I'm based in Bedford, so Biddenham is about ten minutes over the bridge. It's one of the closest villages to me, which is why I can usually offer a slot the same week rather than the week after.

It depends how many rooms and what state they're in, so tell me what you need and I'll give you a price. The minimum call-out is £120. Biddenham costs the same as anywhere in Bedford because I don't add anything for the drive. You get the full price before I start and it doesn't change after.

Hours rather than days, because I pull most of the water back out as I go. If you're in one of the older cottages up by the green with a solid floor under the carpet, allow a bit longer. Solid floors hold damp more than boards do. I'll tell you what to expect for your rooms before I start.

Move the small things off the floor if you can. Anything heavy or awkward, leave it. Some of the older cottages here have narrow doorways and low beams, and I'd rather shift a wardrobe with you than have you do your back in before I arrive.

Yes, and most people do. It saves a second visit and it's cheaper than booking twice. Tell me what you've got when you ask for the price and I'll quote for the lot together.

Yes. I rinse the cleaner back out of the carpet, so nothing sticky or harmful is left sitting in it. That matters more here than most places, given how many Biddenham dogs come back off the river paths and go straight for the rug.

Usually the same week. Send your details or ring me and I'll tell you what's free. Most homes take about half a day, so it's one visit rather than something dragging on.

    The guarantee

    I don't leave
    until you're happy.

    • Before I pack up, we walk round every room together.
    • See a patch you're not happy with? I clean it again while I'm still there.
    • You see the finished job before I go, so there are no surprises after.

    No forms. No argument.
