    Real results

See the difference on a real carpet

"The carpets had heavy traffic marks, general wear, and some noticeable staining, but after the clean they looked dramatically refreshed and much brighter. Mantas did a great job!"

    Rebecca Stewart, Google review

The small photo is the proof. One picture, taken halfway through. Dirty side, clean side, nothing edited.

"I honestly thought a few of the high-traffic stains were permanent, but he managed to get them looking like new again. He was punctual, professional, and very careful with the furniture."

    Laima Zakariene, Google review

"He talked us through the whole process, and the results are fantastic, the carpets look brand new. Highly recommend."

    Sofas too

    Sofa cleaning in Ampthill

I clean sofas and armchairs in Ampthill as well as carpets, and a lot of my work is sofas. If you want both done, it is one visit.

Sofas and armchairs Where the dirt really builds up

Arms, headrests and seat cushions take body oils long before a sofa looks dirty. That is what turns a light fabric dull and grey, and it does come out.

Fabric only I don't clean leather

Fabric sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and cushions. If yours is leather, I will tell you straight away rather than take the job.

Tested first Every fabric checked before I start

I check the care label and test a hidden spot, because some fabrics mark if they get too wet. Then I clean to suit what it is made of.

One visit for both. If you want carpets and a sofa done together, say so when you book and I will price them as one job. A sofa is usually dry in a few hours, and fabric protection can go on at the end. More on sofa cleaning.

    Booking me

    What happens on the day

No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.

    1
    Before I arrive

Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Ampthill is far enough out that I like to fix a time rather than say morning. If you are in one of the older streets near the centre and parking is tight, say so when you book, because a space near the door means a shorter hose, better suction and a carpet that dries faster.

    2
    When I get there

We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.

    3
    While I work

Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.

    4
    When I finish

We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.

    My method

    How I clean
    your carpet

The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.

Checking a carpet before cleaning it in a Bedford home
    Step 01

    I check the carpet

First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.

Vacuuming a carpet before any water is used
    Step 02

    I vacuum first

Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.

Spraying cleaning solution onto a carpet before brushing it in
    Step 03

    I spray the cleaner on

The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.

A machine brush working cleaner into a carpet
    Step 04

    I brush it in

A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.

Hot water rinsing dirt and soap back out of a carpet
    Step 05

    I rinse it out

Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.

Combing a freshly cleaned carpet so it dries evenly
    Step 06

    I comb it flat

I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

    Ampthill

What Ampthill carpets are up against

Ampthill has held a market since 1219 and still looks the part. There are more than a hundred listed buildings in the town, the centre has a strong Georgian feel, and the whole place sits on the Greensand Ridge with the park rising behind it. Just under nine thousand people live here.

Older houses Rugs, boards and stone floors

Older houses often have rugs laid over boards or stone rather than carpet wall to wall. An older rug needs checking before anything wet goes near it, because some dyes move. I test a hidden corner first and tell you what I find before I start.

The park and Cooper's Hill Heath on the doorstep

Ampthill Park, laid out by Capability Brown in the 1770s, and the heath at Cooper's Hill are the obvious places to walk a dog. The heath is sandy and acidic, with clay under the wetter patches, so what comes home on boots is part grit and part sticky mud.

The south side Ampthill Heights and Ampthill Gardens

Two large estates, Ampthill Heights and Ampthill Gardens, were built on the south side of town. Newer houses there usually have one carpet running from the hall, up the stairs and across the landing, and that route takes the wear before the rooms do.

Getting here Worth planning the visit

Ampthill lost its own station in 1959, so the town is built around the car, and the older streets were never laid out for vans. I would rather sort out where to park before the day than hunt for a space with a hose to run.

Ampthill is around eight miles out and nothing is added to the price for it. The streets round the park and the newer estates on the south side are all covered. The same hot rinse I use on any carpet clean in Bedford comes with me.

Yes. Ampthill is about eight miles from Bedford, well inside my 20 miles, so there is no travel charge.

Usually, yes. I check the fibre and test the dye on a hidden corner first. If the dye runs or the rug is too fragile, I will tell you and leave it alone rather than risk it.

No. Cleaning a carpet does not change anything about the building. The main thing is access, so tell me about narrow stairs or low doorways when you book.

Most of it, yes. Let it dry fully first. Dry mud breaks up and vacuums out, then the rinse lifts the mark it leaves behind. If anything has stained the fibre itself, I will say so before I start rather than after.

Yes, fabric ones. I do not clean leather. If you want a sofa done on the same visit as the carpets, mention it when you book.

A few hours in most rooms. Keep the heating on low and a window open if you can, and it dries faster. Socks are fine on it sooner than shoes.

Usually the same week. Message me the rooms and I will send back a price and a few days that work.

    The guarantee

    I don't leave
    until you're happy.

    • Before I pack up, we walk round every room together.
