    Real results

See the difference on a real carpet

"The carpets had heavy traffic marks, general wear, and some noticeable staining, but after the clean they looked dramatically refreshed and much brighter. Mantas did a great job!"

    Rebecca Stewart, Google review

The small photo is the proof. One picture, taken halfway through. Dirty side, clean side, nothing edited.

"I honestly thought a few of the high-traffic stains were permanent, but he managed to get them looking like new again. He was punctual, professional, and very careful with the furniture."

    Laima Zakariene, Google review

"He talked us through the whole process, and the results are fantastic, the carpets look brand new. Highly recommend."

    Sofas too

    Sofa cleaning in Sandy

I clean sofas and armchairs in Sandy as well as carpets, and a lot of my work is sofas. If you want both done, it is one visit.

Sofas and armchairs Where the dirt really builds up

Arms, headrests and seat cushions take body oils long before a sofa looks dirty. That is what turns a light fabric dull and grey, and it does come out.

Fabric only I don't clean leather

Fabric sofas, armchairs, dining chairs and cushions. If yours is leather, I will tell you straight away rather than take the job.

Tested first Every fabric checked before I start

I check the care label and test a hidden spot, because some fabrics mark if they get too wet. Then I clean to suit what it is made of.

One visit for both. If you want carpets and a sofa done together, say so when you book and I will price them as one job. A sofa is usually dry in a few hours, and fabric protection can go on at the end. More on sofa cleaning.

    Booking me

    What happens on the day

No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.

    1
    Before I arrive

Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Sandy is far enough out that I like to fix a time rather than say morning. If you are on one of the busier roads through town, tell me when you book where I can park, because a space near the door means a shorter hose, better suction and a carpet that dries faster.

    2
    When I get there

We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.

    3
    While I work

Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.

    4
    When I finish

We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.

    My method

    How I clean
    your carpet

The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.

Checking a carpet before cleaning it in a Bedford home
    Step 01

    I check the carpet

First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.

Vacuuming a carpet before any water is used
    Step 02

    I vacuum first

Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.

Spraying cleaning solution onto a carpet before brushing it in
    Step 03

    I spray the cleaner on

The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.

A machine brush working cleaner into a carpet
    Step 04

    I brush it in

A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.

Hot water rinsing dirt and soap back out of a carpet
    Step 05

    I rinse it out

Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.

Combing a freshly cleaned carpet so it dries evenly
    Step 06

    I comb it flat

I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

    Sandy

What Sandy carpets are up against

The town is named after the ground it stands on. Sandy sits against the Greensand Ridge, a low line of sandy hills along its eastern side, with the River Ivel running through the valley below. About twelve thousand people live here, and between the heath, the river and the gardens, a fair bit of that ground finds its way indoors.

The Greensand Ridge Sand that walks in on shoes

The soil here is light and drains quickly, which is why Sandy grew up on market gardening. The same sand comes in on shoes and paws. Dry sand is sharp, and walked into a carpet it rubs away at the base of the fibres like fine sandpaper. It is heavy too, so an ordinary vacuum leaves more of it behind than people expect.

The Lodge and Sandy Warren Heath walks and wet dogs

The RSPB reserve at The Lodge and the heath at Sandy Warren are rare ground for the south east, and a good walk. After rain they are a muddy one. Heath soil is dark and slightly acidic, and on a light carpet it tends to show up as a grey shadow along the route from the back door to the kitchen.

Old town and newer estates From the railway era to the 1990s

The old centre grew with the railway in the 1800s. After the war an overspill estate went up between Sunderland Road and St Neots Road, and Fallowfield and Ivel Park followed in the 1990s. Beeston, just to the south, still has its big village green with older houses round it. There is no one type of Sandy house, so I look at each carpet before choosing what goes on it.

An out all day town Empty houses dry fastest

Sandy is about forty minutes from London by train and the A1 runs along the western edge, so a lot of households here are out all day. That suits a carpet clean. A carpet dries quickest in an empty room with a window open, so an afternoon out is ideal.

Sandy is around eight miles out and nothing is added to the price for it. Beeston and Girtford are included too. The same hot rinse I use on any carpet clean in Bedford comes with me.

Yes. Sandy, Beeston and Girtford are about eight miles from Bedford, well inside my 20 miles, so there is no travel charge. You pay the same as someone in Bedford.

It is common on sandy ground. Grit settles at the bottom of the pile where a household vacuum struggles to lift it. I vacuum thoroughly before anything wet goes on, because sand is far easier to take out dry than wet.

Yes. Hair and dried mud come out at the vacuum stage, then the rinse takes out what is left down in the pile. If the dog has had accidents as well, tell me, because that needs treating differently.

Yes. Fabric sofas and chairs, not leather. If you want a carpet and a sofa done on the same visit, say so when you book and I will price them together.

Often, yes. Clean carpets photograph better and make a room look looked after. If a carpet is worn rather than dirty, I will say so, because cleaning does not change wear.

Usually. If you are on a main road or a narrow street, tell me when you book and we will work out the best spot. The closer I can get, the shorter the hose and the better the result.

Normally the same week. Tell me which rooms and roughly how big they are, and I will reply with a firm price and a few dates.
