See the difference on a real carpet
★★★★★"The carpets had heavy traffic marks, general wear, and some noticeable staining, but after the clean they looked dramatically refreshed and much brighter. Mantas did a great job!"
Rebecca Stewart, Google review
The small photo is the proof. One picture, taken halfway through. Dirty side, clean side, nothing edited.

Real carpets from around Bedford and the villages. Photographed on the day, no filters.

Laima Zakariene, Google review

What happens on the day
No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.
Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Elstow is close enough that I can usually get to you early. Parking gets tight round the Green and along West End, so tell me when you book and I'll come before the school run rather than during it.
We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.
Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.
We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.
How I clean
your carpet
The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.
I check the carpet
First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.
I vacuum first
Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.
I spray the cleaner on
The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.
I brush it in
A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.
I rinse it out
Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.
I comb it flat
I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

What Elstow carpets are up against
Two miles south of town, and really two villages in one. There is the medieval High Street round the Green, and there is Abbeyfields and Pilgrims Way. The carpets in each have almost nothing in common.
Some of the cottages by the Green go back to the fifteenth century, and one on the High Street still has its thatch. Buildings that old usually have a solid floor under the carpet rather than boards. Solid floors hold damp, so the job becomes about how much water comes back out, not how much goes down. It is why I would rather take another dry pass than finish early.
The newer end went up in the early 2000s and the ground floors are open plan. One carpet runs from the front door through to the kitchen, so a darker path wears in along the route everybody takes. People assume it is worn out. Most of the time it is soil catching the light differently, and the colour comes back once it's gone.
Elstow sits on Oxford clay with the old brickfields either side and the brook along the bottom of the village. What comes in off that ground dries to a pale fine dust rather than a lump of mud. Dust is easy to ignore, because it never leaves a mark you can point at. It just quietly greys a hall carpet over a couple of winters.
Elstow is the nearest village on my list, which makes it easy to work around you. If an early start or a late one suits you better, say so. Round the Green and along West End parking gets awkward, and a space near the door means a shorter hose, better suction and a carpet that dries faster.
Elstow is five minutes from me, so there's no travel charge and usually no wait. It's the closest village I cover, which means I can often fit you in at short notice when something moves in the diary.

Questions people in Elstow ask
If something isn't covered here, just ask. It's a one-person business, so you'll always get a straight answer.
Ask me directly. I answer every message myself, usually within the hour.
01234 634521 contact@purgebright.co.ukYes, and it's the easiest one on my list. I'm in Bedford, so Elstow is five minutes down the road. No travel charge, and if something opens up in the diary you're usually the first person I can get to.
It depends how many rooms and how bad they are, so tell me what you need and I'll price it. The minimum call-out is £120. Being this close doesn't make it cheaper than town, but it doesn't make it dearer either, and the number doesn't move once I've given it.
More often here than anywhere else. Cancellations happen, and Elstow is close enough that I can fill a gap the same day without messing anybody else about. Ask, and if I've got something I'll say so.
Not at all, it just changes the plan. Narrow doorways, low beams and a solid floor under the carpet all get taken into account. The main difference is drying time, and I'll tell you what to expect for your rooms before I start rather than leaving you guessing.
Usually not. That path is nearly always soil ground into the pile along the route everyone walks, and it lifts. Real wear looks different, and I'll say so if that's what it turns out to be. Most people are surprised how much of it comes back.
Yes, and most people here do. One visit is cheaper than two and it saves you finding another slot. Tell me what you've got when you ask for the price and I'll quote it all together.
Yes. The cleaner gets rinsed back out rather than left in the carpet, so there's nothing sticky sitting in the pile for anyone to crawl about on. It's also why it stays clean longer, because sticky residue is what pulls dirt straight back in.
I don't leave
until you're happy.
- Before I pack up, we walk round every room together.
- See a patch you're not happy with? I clean it again while I'm still there.
- You see the finished job before I go, so there are no surprises after.
