What happens on the day
No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.
Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Cople is one of the easier ones for access. Most houses here have somewhere to put the van close by, which keeps the hose run short and the suction strong.
We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.
Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.
We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.
How I clean
your carpet
The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.
I check the carpet
First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.
I vacuum first
Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.
I spray the cleaner on
The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.
I brush it in
A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.
I rinse it out
Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.
I comb it flat
I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

What Cople carpets are up against
Four miles east of town on the Sandy road, sat on old gravel workings rather than on the river. It is flat, open, working farmland, and that shows up in the carpets more than people realise.
The ground under Cople is river terrace sand and gravel over clay, and the old pits off Willington Road are still there as water. What walks in from ground like that is gritty rather than muddy. Grit is about the worst thing a carpet can hold, because every footstep grinds it against the fibre and cuts it. A vacuum takes the loose layer off the top. It does not touch what has worked its way down.
Bedford Road carries traffic between town and Sandy all day long. Houses on that side pick up a fine road film that arrives on the air as much as on shoes. It settles, it goes slightly tacky, and then it holds on to everything else that lands on it. It is the reason a hallway can look tired when nothing has ever been spilled on it.
There is real thatch and timber frame down Water End, and the yellow brick estate cottages on Northill Road date from the 1860s. Houses of that age often have a solid floor under the carpet instead of boards. Solid floors dry slowly, so the water I take back out matters far more than the water that goes down.
Being out of the terraces helps me. Most of Cople has a drive or a bit of verge, and Grange Lane and the closes are wide enough to get the van near your door. Short hose, strong suction, more water back out, quicker drying. In a tight street in town I lose all three of those.
Cople is ten minutes from me and there's no travel charge. It's one of the closest villages I cover, which usually means I can offer you something the same week rather than the week after.

01234 634521 contact@purgebright.co.ukYes, and there's no travel charge. I'm based in Bedford and Cople is roughly ten minutes out on the A603. It's one of the closest villages to me, so it's rarely difficult to fit in.
It comes down to the number of rooms and the state they're in. Tell me what you need and I'll give you a price. The minimum call-out is £120, with nothing added for coming out of town. The price you're given is the price you pay.
Usually yes, and it's the most common reason I get called out. Flat and dull normally means grit and soil sitting down in the pile, holding the fibres apart and killing the light off them. Once that's out the carpet lifts and the colour comes back. Genuine wear doesn't, and I'll tell you which one you've got.
Take the small things off the floor if you can, and leave anything heavy where it is. I'll shift it with you when I get there. Nobody needs to be dragging a sofa about on their own the night before.
Hours rather than days. I pull most of the water straight back out, and being able to park close here helps with that. If you're in one of the older cottages with a solid floor under the carpet, give it longer, and I'll say so before I start.
Yes. I rinse the cleaner back out of the carpet rather than leaving it in there, so nothing sticky or harmful stays behind for anyone to crawl about on. That last rinse is the step most cheap cleans skip.
Usually the same week. Send me the rooms or give me a ring and I'll tell you what's free. Most houses take about half a day, so it's one visit and it's over with.
I don't leave
until you're happy.
- Before I pack up, we walk round every room together.
- See a patch you're not happy with? I clean it again while I'm still there.
- You see the finished job before I go, so there are no surprises after.
