See the difference on a real carpet

"The carpets had heavy traffic marks, general wear, and some noticeable staining, but after the clean they looked dramatically refreshed and much brighter. Mantas did a great job!"

    Rebecca Stewart, Google review

The small photo is the proof. One picture, taken halfway through. Dirty side, clean side, nothing edited.

"I honestly thought a few of the high-traffic stains were permanent, but he managed to get them looking like new again. He was punctual, professional, and very careful with the furniture."

    Laima Zakariene, Google review

"He talked us through the whole process, and the results are fantastic, the carpets look brand new. Highly recommend."

    Booking me

    What happens on the day

No surprises. Here is exactly how a carpet clean goes.

    1
    Before I arrive

Clear the small things off the floor and move what furniture you can manage. Anything too heavy or awkward, leave it and I'll give you a hand with it when I get there. Roxton is easy enough to reach, but the Black Cat works can slow the A421 without warning. I set off early rather than turn up late, and you'll hear from me if the road is against me.

    2
    When I get there

We look at the rooms together and I confirm the price. Nothing starts until you are happy with it. Then I set up, which takes a few minutes.

    3
    While I work

Stay in or go out, whatever suits you. Most homes take about half a day. I work room by room so you always have somewhere to sit.

    4
    When I finish

We walk round every room together. I take all my kit with me and leave the place tidy.

    My method

    How I clean
    your carpet

The same six steps on every job, whether it's one room or the whole house.

Checking a carpet before cleaning it in a Bedford home
    Step 01

    I check the carpet

First I find out what your carpet is made of. That tells me which products are safe to use on it.

Vacuuming a carpet before any water is used
    Step 02

    I vacuum first

Most of the dirt in a carpet is dry. I take that out before any water goes near it.

Spraying cleaning solution onto a carpet before brushing it in
    Step 03

    I spray the cleaner on

The cleaner goes on and sits for a few minutes. That gives it time to loosen the dirt.

A machine brush working cleaner into a carpet
    Step 04

    I brush it in

A machine brush works it right down to the bottom of the carpet, where the grease sits.

Hot water rinsing dirt and soap back out of a carpet
    Step 05

    I rinse it out

Hot water pulls the dirt and the soap straight back out. Nothing sticky is left behind.

Combing a freshly cleaned carpet so it dries evenly
    Step 06

    I comb it flat

I comb the carpet so it dries faster and looks even all over.

    Roxton

What Roxton carpets are up against

The village sits in the crook of the Great Ouse, about seven miles out on the A421. Half of Roxton is three hundred years old and half of it went up in the last few years. The two halves give me completely different jobs.

The river side Soft ground half the year

The Ouse runs along the east and south of the parish, and the lock and the weir are where most people walk. From autumn onwards the meadows down there stay soft for weeks. What comes back up the path is a thin silty mud rather than the sticky sort. It dries to a fine grey dust and drops straight to the bottom of the pile, so you never see it arrive. You notice it when the carpet stops matching the offcut in the cupboard.

High Street Thatch, timber and solid floors

The old part of the village is a conservation area and there is proper thatch and timber frame in among it. Under those floors there is usually solid ground rather than boards. Solid floors hold damp far longer, so the job stops being about how much water goes down and becomes about how much comes back out. That is why I would rather take another dry pass than pack up ten minutes early.

The new closes Underfloor heating changes the job

The newer end of Roxton has gone up quickly, and a lot of those houses have underfloor heating and a heat pump rather than radiators. That is good news, because a warm floor dries a carpet fast. The catch is that the carpets are nearly always pale, and pale carpet shows a walked-in path between the front door and the kitchen within a few years. Almost every time, that path is soil rather than wear, and it lifts.

Getting to you Parking and the Black Cat

Bedford Road, High Street, Park Road and School Lane are the main ones, and plenty of the older houses park on the street. A space near the door means a shorter hose, and a shorter hose means stronger suction and a drier carpet. The other thing is the junction. The works run until 2027 and the A421 backs up at odd times, so I build that delay into my day rather than into your morning.

Roxton is about twenty minutes out and there's no travel charge for it. Living past Great Barford doesn't cost you extra and it doesn't put you further down the list either. I'm out that way most weeks.

Yes, and there's no extra charge. I'm in Bedford, so it's a straight run out on the A421, about twenty minutes. Some cleaners quote more once you're out near the Black Cat. I don't, because the drive is my problem rather than yours.

It depends on how many rooms and what state they're in, so tell me what you need and I'll price it. The minimum call-out is £120. Roxton costs the same as anywhere in Bedford. You get the full price before I start and it doesn't move afterwards.

More often than people expect. New carpets are usually pale, and pale carpets show a walked-in path long before they show a stain. That path is soil sitting in the pile, and it comes out. Doing it before it sets in is a lot cheaper than replacing a carpet that was never actually worn out.

No, it works in your favour. A warm floor takes the last of the moisture out faster than a radiator does. Put it on low a couple of hours before I arrive and leave it running after, and the carpet will be ready sooner. Mention it when you book and I'll plan the day around it.

Hours, not days. I take most of the water back out as I go instead of leaving it sitting in the carpet. If you're in one of the older High Street houses with a solid floor underneath, allow a bit longer. I'll tell you what to expect for your rooms before I start.

They can. The junction is being rebuilt and the A421 backs up at strange times of day. I leave earlier than I need to, and if I'm going to be late you'll get a message rather than be left wondering. It has never yet turned into a cancelled job.

Yes, and it's worth doing. One visit costs less than two and it saves you finding another slot. Tell me what you've got when you ask for the price and I'll quote for the lot together.
