Your rug deserves
better than carpet cleaning.
Rugs are not carpets. Wrong chemistry causes dye bleeding, fringe damage and shrinkage. We identify every fibre type before we touch it โ and use WoolSafeยฎ approved solutions throughout.

Rugs are not carpets.
Treating them the same causes damage.
Most general carpet cleaners use the same method on every job. For fitted carpets that's fine โ but rugs have different constructions, loose backings and fringes that react very differently to heat, moisture and chemistry.
Natural dyes in wool and oriental rugs can bleed into adjacent colours when wet. A colour-fastness test before cleaning is non-negotiable.
Wool and natural fibre rugs shrink when over-wetted. Low-moisture techniques protect construction and backing from warping.
Cotton fringes rot and yellow when treated with the wrong chemistry or left damp. Fringes need hand-treatment with dedicated fringe cleaner.
Latex-backed rugs can delaminate when soaked. We check backing construction before any moisture is introduced.
Every rug gets a pre-inspection โ before any cleaning begins
We identify the fibre, check the backing construction and test colour-fastness in a hidden area. That assessment determines the exact technique, moisture level and chemistry we use. It takes 5 minutes and prevents permanent damage.
We clean every
rug type safely
From delicate hand-knotted Persian wool to modern flatweave synthetics โ each type has different requirements. We identify the construction and fibre before choosing the method.
Wool is durable but sensitive to alkaline chemistry and excess moisture. WoolSafeยฎ approved solutions are essential to avoid shrinkage and pile damage.
- WoolSafeยฎ approved pH-neutral solutions only
- Low-moisture technique protects construction
- Colour-fastness tested before cleaning
Natural dyes in traditional Persian and oriental rugs are among the most unstable โ dye bleeding can be irreversible. Fringe requires dedicated hand-treatment.
- Mandatory colour-fastness test โ no exceptions
- Fringe hand-cleaned with dedicated fringe solution
- Honest โ we advise if risk is too high
The most forgiving rug type โ stable dyes and resilient fibres handle extraction well. Still benefit from pre-treatment and proper rinsing to prevent residue build-up.
- Full hot water extraction safe
- Pre-treatment for traffic soiling and stains
- Fastest drying time
Jute and sisal absorb water and can shrink, brown or rot if over-wetted. These require very low-moisture dry cleaning methods โ not extraction.
- Dry or minimal-moisture cleaning only
- Browning prevention treatment where needed
- Honest โ we advise if dry cleaning isn't enough
Long pile rugs trap significantly more debris than low pile โ standard vacuuming barely reaches the base. Deep extraction removes embedded soil that's invisible on the surface.
- Deep commercial vacuum before extraction
- Pile-safe agitation technique
- Longer dry time โ we advise on airflow
Pure silk and silk blend rugs are the most fragile โ extremely sensitive to water, friction and incorrect chemistry. Requires specialist dry cleaning methods only.
- Dry-clean method only โ no water extraction
- Minimum agitation to protect sheen
- Honest assessment โ we'll tell you if it's beyond safe treatment

Rug cleaning
questions answered
Everything you need to know before booking โ straight answers, no fluff.
Describe your rug and we'll advise on the best approach before you commit to anything.
We clean rugs on-site in your home, which keeps costs significantly lower than send-away services. We need access to a hard floor area โ kitchen, utility room, hallway or an outdoor patio โ to lay the rug flat and work safely. You don't need to move or roll the rug yourself.
Dye bleeding is a real risk with some oriental and Persian rugs โ which is exactly why we always test colour-fastness in a hidden area before adding any moisture. If dyes are unstable, we use low-moisture techniques specifically designed for that situation. We'll tell you honestly if we find a rug that carries too high a risk to clean safely.
Yes โ fringes are hand-treated with a dedicated fringe cleaner, not just included in the main extraction pass. Fringes (usually cotton) are prone to yellowing and rotting if treated with the wrong chemistry, so we use a specific low-alkaline fringe solution. Badly matted or damaged fringes will be improved but may not return to brand-new condition.
Most rugs dry in 4โ8 hours depending on pile depth, fibre type and how much moisture was required. Shaggy and deep pile rugs take longer; synthetics dry fastest. We recommend leaving the rug on a hard floor with good airflow โ open windows or a fan speeds drying considerably. We'll give you a specific drying estimate based on your rug type.
Yes โ we add an enzyme pre-treatment to the affected areas before the main clean. The enzymes break down urine proteins and neutralise ammonia odour at the source, rather than masking it. For heavily contaminated rugs or those with deep backing absorption, we'll assess severity and advise on the best approach during the pre-inspection.
Most rugs can be cleaned safely โ but not all. Some very old or fragile rugs, or those with highly unstable dyes, carry a risk of irreversible damage regardless of the cleaning method. If we assess your rug and find the risk outweighs the benefit, we'll tell you clearly before starting โ you're never charged for an honest assessment.
